By now you’ve probably seen the Environmental Working Group’s Sunscreen Hall of Shame that’s been floating around the internet. It contains an impressive list of potentially harmful sunscreens, and I bet if you check the list you can find at least one that you have in your home right now.
After reading the list, I was glad to know what I shouldn’t be using, but I was left with a more pressing concern.
What SHOULD I use??
The good news is that EWG has also compiled a large list of sunscreens that they deem safe. You can find the complete list here, but I thought it might be helpful to share a condensed version with you.
Here’s my slightly odd disclosure: I’ve only included sunscreens from EWG’s list that I could find on Walmart.com because I like one-stop shopping. The links I’ve included are affiliate links which means that at no extra cost to you, I’ll earn a small commission if you make a purchase.
HOWEVER, you may very well be able to find these sunscreens somewhere else for a better price. My reason for writing this post is not to make money, but to make it easier to find safe sunscreens.
If you know any families who would benefit from seeing this list, I encourage you to share it!

We use babyganics. It’s easy to find and its on the safe list! It also comes in a stick which I love for faces. Great list. It can be tricky to sort their ewg’s list sometimes and find easy to find sunscreens.

This is a great list. I also like Blue Lizard – but I haven’t checked it against your list. Thanks for posting!

I use Babyganics – the stick. I love that EWG rates it super low. And, my son thinks he’s using a big color crayon all over his body.

Again love that California Baby is on this list as we have used them for a few years now since my youngest was allergic as a baby to regular sunscreens.
