One New Food: Peas
Peas were our One New Food for February and we tried both the regular and sugar snap varieties. My goal was to have the kids try them four times. Unfortunately, we only managed three. I’m going to blame it on Eli being sick for a week and a half. I wasn’t great at making wonderful dinners while he was down for the count. Plus February is a short month. Yeah, that was the problem 😉
Anyway, it went decently well. The kids didn’t love them, but they ate their required bites without too much difficulty. What I was most impressed with was how they all happily took bites of raw sugar snap peas. None of them liked them (they’ve never been big on raw veggies), but it was awesome to see how easily and willingly they tried. And since they didn’t like them, I got to polish off the bag because those things are GOOD!
I remember taking pictures of the kids trying the sugar snap peas in the stir fry. Eric remembers me taking pictures of the kids trying the sugar snap peas in the stir fry. Sadly, the pictures are nowhere to be found. So you get the picture of the stir fry (up at the top) and this picture of the chicken pot pie I made that had regular peas in it.
I thought the kids would be really jazzed up when they saw what I did to decorate it. They weren’t.

The thing I always find funny is that my youngest is pretty good about eating veggies and fruits, but he doesn’t like casseroles or things with sauce. None of the rest of us want to eat bland food all the time, so I’m stuck with how to get him to eat more at dinner.

We have a son with allergies, so sometimes I’ll pull the plain meat and veggies out for him before adding any sauces. I always feel kinda bad because it looks so boring, but he usually doesn’t mind.

My kids loved regular peas when they were babies but won’t touch them now…(but neither will I!) On the other hand I love sugar snap peas.
Echo says
My kids will eat peas, but not snap peas or pea pods. They do enjoy harvesting the peas out of the pods though, lol!
Savanna says
I love peas… my kids will eat regular ones, and my smallest will eat the whole pod… but my 4 year old- it ucky! lol

I’m excited to see more posts and bloggers joining #OneNewFood. Congrats. You pie crust is impressive…even just trying. I would probably mess it up and it would be illegible. I can’t win my family over with peas so I commend you for trying. Happy March.

That makes me feel better! Your son tries so many great foods, so the fact that he doesn’t love peas makes me feel like it’s not so bad that my kids didn’t love them.
